What is the best way to care for gerberas in a flower arrangement? (Please read details!)?

My daughter’s first birthday party is this Saturday and I wanted to get pink Gerberas for the tables, but I am not the best with plants and flowers and keeping things alive… Am I completely safe to get the flowers the night before so I have less to do the morning of the party? Will they still look firm and fresh? Also - what should I put them in (besides water)…or basically, how do YOU care for flower arrangements?

If i will it will just be to compliment the arrangement. Their is alos a particular green and white leaffy kinda plant always in a pot that i want to use .
