I’m not a flower person so I really want to minimise my flowerage at the wedding, esp. the church. I have thought about bows on pews and scented candles. Also I have thought about buying nice stargazer lillies (my bouquet flowers) from Tesco and putting them in glass vases at the alter. I dont want to spend loads on flowers! Any other suggestions!

When I got married, it was the same day as the church was celebrating First Holy Communion. So we just left the flowers there rearranged the bows on the pews.
your idea sound good. I don’t blame you not wanting to spend excess amount of money on flowers that will starting dying or wilting not long after setting them out.
Try the fllower mart in your area…if your in a big city.
Otherwise, consider the flower provider at the cemetary. They usually can get you a great deal on NEW flowers and would love the business. Everyone thinks they only due funerals……huge misconception.
Make a deal with your florist to use him for your wedding if he gives you a discount when you use him for your engagement party or reception. They usually go for it.
You can make real flowers go farther by mixing them with silk flowers. No one will know the difference. You can also use branches in vases for a very dramatic look. Ask the florist what the least expensive flower is at that time of year and go with it. Did you know that the pollen from stargazer lilies stains?
The bows on pews is a good idea and I would have a simple arch at alter you can buy them cheap at craft stores or rent them for different places. Use little or no flowers on the arch . You can even put bows on that. I am not real into the flowers either but did have my own bouquet as well as my groom and the pastor. I decorated the tables with fake petals mixed with real on the tables. and put a clear glass bowl with floating candles in the middle of each table.

I got married ten months ago, and NO I AM NOT A FLOWER PERSON nor did I want to spend 600.00 on them.
This is what I did:
Chapel:
I got Tulle in my color, filled it with a 5 pound bag of rice, put a bow on it. We had about 8 bags of rice on top of a short stand, going down the aisle with tulle and bows between them.
Bridesmaids:
The day before we went to grocery store and picked bouquets of my color for the bridesmaids. After the ceremony they were place on my table as a decoration. They were also limp, they were cheap flowers, so laying them across the table disguised their deadness.
TABLES:
I had a princess theme so I had small carriages on each table with a prince and princess. People at each table fought over who would take it home. I also took the bag of rice from the ceremony and put them on the tables as well. I got one rose petals and sprinkled those on the table.
These were simple things from simple stores with no extra wedding OVERHEAD attached to the price.

My sister made her bouquet and every one elses in the wedding party from silk flowers purchased at hobby lobby. We made bows for the pews, and no flowers at the reception.
She had a arch she bought and put together from the garden area at wal-mart. She bought fake wisteria vines and hung on the arch, that is where she and her husband exchanged vows. Every thing was reasonably priced, the arch went in her yard so it was something they could always have for a keepsake.

I found someone to do them from their home, and only had 2 bouquets, 3 corsages, 5 boots, and one table arrangement for the head table, and two large arrangements to be on either side of us during the ceremony…which was less than $500. On the tables I bought $1 large vases from michaels and used grapes, leaves, small apples and limes tomake a beautiful arrangement….see pics below
We bought a number of bunches of various basic but attractive flowers from the local florist. Then we took the bunches apart and mixed them all up. For my bouquet, I basically scooped together a bunch of mixed flowers and tied them together with string, We scattered handfuls of loose flowers on the tables at the reception
Now a days they make artificial flowers that look like the are real, and you cannot tell the difference.

Well if you dont want alot of flowers how about something like ribbons,or white or balloons the color of your color them. Or how about candles. That is always nice you can always reuse some in the reception. That is what I am going to do.
The bows sound nice, maybe either white or the color of the bridesmaid dresses. I don’t like the candle idea,especially that they would have to be lit, and might start a fire. Ask your church if there is a wedding right before or after your wedding, then maybe you could contact the other bride and possible pay half each, saving yourself half the cost. If you are getting married around a church holiday it might already be decorated with lots of flowers. Good luck!
When my daughter got married we had two big vases of flowers on the altar and bows made of toole with a little bit of fake flowers matching the ones in the bouquets. It was much cheaper and we were able to use the fake ones in arrangements such as wreaths for them to use on their wall/door, also for the grooms mother and myself as well. Save the real money for the reception area, that is where most of the time will be spent anyways.
